Last week I told you a little bit about what a women's life coach is, and this week, I really wanted to speak to those of you who are feeling a little sceptical about life coaching. If you feel that you are a fully functioning member of society, with a lot to be thankful for, a great career or position as a loving mother and an active, busy household to take care of, you may well feel that life is good - and indeed it is. However, if you ever have the feeling that there's something just “not right” and maybe you're missing an element or two in your life, then you may well need to turn to the services of a women's life coach.
Sometimes women discount the idea of a lifestyle coach or even openly oppose the notion. However, if you find yourself seeking out the company of a close friend of confidant and engaging in lengthy conversations about certain elements of the direction of your life, then the chances are that you are looking for a clearer path.
As life can be so complicated these days, it can often leave us with a sense of some confusion at the end of each day. It has been a busy and productive 24 hours, but have we really got the most out of our potential, and are we really allowing and planning for the future sufficiently?
Don't confuse the lifestyle coach with a therapist, as some do. If you feel that you are in need of healing in some way, or have some repressed emotions or significant issues from the past, then you may indeed want to consult with a professional therapist. Assuming all is well in that department, have you ever stopped to consider how much more potential your life could have if you engaged with someone who was able, from a professional perspective, to pull out even more of your potential, capitalize on your successes and really bring out your strengths?
Far from being an unnecessary expense, a program with a life coach could open up opportunities that you never dreamed of, and pay for itself over and again, with a far more productive and enjoyable future.
This week, think about what you would change in your life - maybe you want to relight the flame which has gone out with your husband? Stop worrying about whether you're an inadequate mother because you have a desire to go back to work - it's natural to have ambitions. You may simply want to change the way you see yourself in the mirror. If you feel you want to share any of your thoughts, please email me on Tara@ElegantFemme.com and I will endeavour to offer advice and answer as many of your questions as possible through my weekly newsletter.

Each one of us has a certain amount of inbuilt stubbornness, an
inherent belief that we can “go it alone” and will somehow fix whatever
problems and issues we are faced with. Sometimes we just trust that
things will change and many of us go by the mantra that “this too shall
pass!” While there's a lot to be said for a certain amount of tenacity
and the will to go forward at all times, it is often not advisable to
hold feelings and emotions within, to put off ambitions due to a
perceived lack of time, or to otherwise be a martyr to life's pressures. It's true to say that some people view a women's life coach with a certain amount of trepidation, confusion or uncertainty. Some people think that she is merely a therapist of some kind and the thought of “seeing a therapist” may not be socially acceptable. Others may not be sure exactly how a life coach could help them achieve greater things and due to this misunderstanding, do not make any efforts to investigate.
It's important to realize that the job of a therapist is, largely, to look at a person's past and to see how events and circumstances may, sometimes subconsciously, be affecting a person's life today. Insofar as the therapist looks backward in this way, the life coach looks at the present day and forward. A good life coach will put everything in perspective and work with strengths and successes, some of which may not be consciously apparent to the client.
A relationship between a life coach and a client is completely open and is not based on any perceived standards, patterns or concepts. The coach makes pains to fully understand the client and open up other life perspectives. She will then suggest and help to implement an action plan and encourage the client forward to a more sustainable life, one which is full of more promise and enjoyment.
Life is more complicated now than it ever has been and is unlikely to get any less so. With so many pressures from so many different angles it makes sense to hear the thoughts of another, who is professionally committed to the role of a mentor and to helping the client achieve her top potential.
